Venue…CHECK!

They say that one of the biggest hurdles that you should accomplish early on is securing a venue and a date, they weren’t kidding! It was not a challenging hurdle but it required a lot of time, research, excel spreadsheets, e-mails and MILES! We drove over 300 miles all in and drained Eric’s EZ Pass in two weeks :) But it was all worth it

Eric and I both are pretty big into wine and during our last Spring Break at Drexel we took a trip out to Napa, one of the best trips! It was the perfect time in our lives to have an adventurous trip but nothing that required international travel or currency exchange or passports. We decided we wanted to have our wedding at a winery and started our search up and down the Shawangunk Wine Trail in NYS.

Over the course of two weekends, we along with my parents traveled to 4 wineries, 1 inn & spa and 1 NYS historical park. In the end we chose Benmarl Winery in Marlboro, NY. GREAT staff and an awesome view of the Hudson River! We highly recommend the Seyval Blanc if you get a chance to go up :-)

Now we can move forward with really developing the wedding and all the fun little details that we hope will create an awesome day to remember!

Venue Scouting, Take 1!

So we wound-up visiting 4 sites yesterday with my side of the POB (“Parents Of the Bride”), they got pretty excited after the first few!

It is really an overwhelming experience in terms of what kinds of questions do you ask, what fees are included, who includes what in their packages etc. The most exciting part of the experience for us was being able to walk-up to a venue and really envision what our wedding would look like, some of the venues you could immediately envision it while others were a miss.

Overall the day went really well, however it did not go down without some mishaps! In total we got lost 3 times, hit 1 deer and Eric and I got stuck in traffic coming home for 6 hours (that’s 4 hours longer than it usually takes!). So glad we got to all go through this stuff together though, these bumps in the road help strengthen us as a family :-)

Lessons Learned So Far:

  • If you cannot envision your wedding at a venue, take them off the list!
  • Keep maps handy when driving between locations, google maps works best in metropolitan areas, not quite as good w/o good reception in areas such as Warwick, NY
  • Bring a notebook and a camera to each visit
  • When someone offers you a glass of wine use the “divide by 2″ rule (that’s my new BTB “Bride To Be” rule), as the MOB (“Mother of the Bride”) and/or FOB (“Father of the Bride”) may want to consume more than the BTB or GTB (“Groom To Be”)

off to see some locations

Today, we head back home from our Thanksgiving visit to Jennilee’s family, but we’re making a few stops along the way to scout out some possible wedding locations. The weather isn’t great scouting weather, but hey, at least we’ll see these places during the worst possible time right?
