one year anniversary

This set of photos are pretty special to us. They were taken in the same place we had our one year anniversary dinner. Back in 2004, I decided to surprise Jennilee with a (windy) dinner in the gazebo behind the Philadelphia Art Museum. With the help of Rol (my best man) and our friend Jess, we were able to pull off quite a dinner. Jennilee was definitely taken aback when I brought her there that night and her eyes followed the path of rose pedals, up the steps, to a candle lit table overlooking the river. And as you can see, things went pretty well since then ;)

And of course, here’s a couple pictures from that night in 2004. We looked so young! Enjoy!

time flies!

We’re five months away from the big day, and we’re both very excited. The planning is coming along very well. We’re about to finalize our rehearsal dinner venue, so keep an eye out for that post.

In the mean time, we decided to start a series of posts for our engagement photos. We’ve got all these photos, and so far we’ve really used three or four out of the bunch (save the dates, facebook profiles, and desktop backgrounds). Kyle Carlos did an awesome job with the photos and we’re very happy with how they turned out, so we figured, why not share the rest of them with you guys? Starting today, we’ll be posting two or three posts a week to share our engagement photos. Enjoy!

the proposal – the grooms’ story

The proposal was a perfect example of things not going according to plan. It was a normal Sunday afternoon. Jen was in the livingroom playing with Parker (our cat), and I was in the office getting a bit of work done to prepare for the short Thanksgiving week. The plan was to propose to Jen in two days.

I was just sitting there working and listening to Jen in the other room, when all of a sudden I was just overwhelmed with this feeling of anxiousness. I’ve got the ring hidden in the other room, and I could propose right now if I wanted to. Why was I waiting to do this? To have the perfect proposal that I had planned? So I decided right then and there that I was going to propose. I couldn’t wait any longer!

So I think to myself, how am I going to do this? As I was racking my brain, Jen calls me into the livingroom. Turns out she’s thrown Parker’s toy under the couch and she needed help getting it out from under there (she’s got a habit of doing this). This is it! This is how I’m going to propose!

I grab the ring, and I head into the livingroom. I go over to the couch, get down on the floor and reach under for Parker’s toy. I pull the toy out, and tell Jen that I found more of Parker’s toys under the couch. I pull each one out, one by one, then finally pull out the little black box. As I pull it out from under the couch, I get up on one knee and ask Jen if she’s seen this toy before. She comes closer to look, and says she’s never seen the toy before. As she gets closer, she realizes what it is, and I open up the box! I look her in the eyes and ask her to marry me. I’ll never forget the look on her face!

on engagement presents

Lots of brides-to-be wonder if they should give their fiancé an engagement present. My answer to them? Yes! Of course, you, the bride, is already present enough ;) , but giving your fiancé an engagement present would be a nice gesture. I wouldn’t go too crazy since you two are spending some serious money on that whole wedding thing, but something nice that lets him remember that special day.

Some of the more common gifts I’ve seen are watches, cufflinks, even golf clubs! I say be creative, and get him something that he would really appreciate. For me, my fiancé got me this sweet shirt.
